If you like to cool off at one of Sioux Falls swimming pools it may cost you a whole lot more in the future.

Our News partner KDLT TV is reporting that the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation department is proposing a substantial increase in admission rates.

The proposal would double and even triple some of the rates of daily and season passes.  It would also eliminate free pool passes the city offers to low-income families.

The going rate for a swim at any of the city's pool facilities ranges from $3 to $4 dollars a day.

The parks and rec proposal would up those rates by at least a dollar.  The proposal also includes doubling the prices for season passes.

A child's pass is now $15. Under the proposal, by 2018, it would jump to $60 bucks.

A family pass would go from $70 to $150 in the same time period under the proposal.

The proposal also includes a recommendation to discontinue free season passes for low income people, which accounted for 52 percent of the family passes issued in 2014.

City Finance Director Tracy Turbak says upping the prices will keep the city more in-line with other pool rates in comparable Midwest cities.

The Parks and Recreation Board will decide on the proposal June 16th, if they approve, it will go to the Council on July 7.

What do you think?  Should the city raise Sioux Falls Pool rates?
