Sioux Falls has a number of really nice city parks and we're about to get two more.

The Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department is in the process of completing two new neighborhood parks: Southern Vistas Park, located at West 53rd Street and South Klein Avenue; and Prairie Hills West Park, located near South Hemingstone Trail and South Meredith Avenue.

Southern Vistas Park is approximately seven acres in size and is located adjacent to Pettigrew Elementary School on the west side of Sioux Falls. This new park will include a network of walking paths, a picnic shelter with security lighting, a drinking fountain, stamped and colored concrete, a backstop, interpretive signage, benches, landscaping, and large open green spaces. The new walking paths will connect users from the neighborhood to the park and to the existing play structures, which are utilized by both the school and the park.

The new Prairie Hills West Park is approximately three acres in size and located within the Prairie Hills West subdivision. The construction project for this new park will create a picnic shelter with security lighting, concrete walkways, playground equipment and surfacing, a backstop, various site furnishings, a drinking fountain, landscaping, tree plantings, and green space.

The contractor for Southern Vistas Park project is Daniels Residential Incorporated. Dakotaland Sod is handling the Prairie Hills West Park project.

With addition of these two new city parks, Sioux Falls will have a total of 80 public parks.

The two new projects were funded through Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation’s capital improvement program at a cost of $815,000 combined.

Both parks are still under construction, but will be available for use yet this fall.
