If you're putting up outside holiday decorations right now, Sioux Falls Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says keep in mind there are some people that might vandalize them.

"It's fine to put out your Christmas decorations. But once you have those things set up, take a look and think 'would it be easy for someone to take this stuff, would it be easy for someone to damage some of them.' Then you need to take some steps to limit that as best you can."

Clemens offers these tips in keeping your outdoor decorations safe this holiday season.

"It may be adding some sand bags, maybe mounting things on boards that make it bulky and difficult to move around, maybe staking down extensions cords and hiding them. There are a lot of things people can do. It's really just trying to think of things in a different light."

Aside from outdoor decorations, Clemens says make sure you lock your doors and windows in an effort to deter predators from stealing presents inside your home.
