Sioux Falls Police responded to an assault early Wednesday morning in the 800 block of South Main Avenue.

"The victim was leaving his residence," Police Lt. John Duprey told us,"and was at the top of a very narrow stairwell. As he was locking his door, the man was hit in the head with something. He was pushed back into his residence. He blacked out for a short amount of time. When he came too, his pants were gone and so was his wallet."

Duprey says detectives are searching for the suspect.

"Based upon statements from the victim, he does not believe that the general public is in any danger at this point. The incident is still being investigated by police."

Duprey says the incident was initially reported as a stabbing.
