Shopping during the holiday season can present unique danger!

Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Sam Clemens says taking a few preventative measures can keep your holiday season joyous.

"Make sure you lock your doors. That's the one thing we see all year round regardless of the weather (whatever season we may be upon.) Make sure your car doors are locked is first and foremost to keep your property safe."

Clemens says it's also important to avoid displaying your purchases and belongings where they can be easily seen.

"Keep your belongings where they are not easily visible. Place them in a trunk. If you don't have a trunk or if it's full, throw a blanket over top of it."

Clemens reminds residents to beware of strangers approaching you.

"At this time of year, con-artists may try various methods of distracting you with the intention of taking your money or belongings."
