Sioux Falls Police Chief Matt Burns says his department is in need of additional officers.

"We have a class that we are actually filling right now for June. We have some offers out there to folks. We are targeting the next recruitment class during April and May for a November class."

Burns says some potential candidates are reluctant to become a police officer.

"It is just more difficult to get good quality applicants interested in law enforcement roles. Part of that is the extra scrutiny during the past several years in the events that have taken place across the country which has cast law enforcement in an unfortunate light. But that is the reality we are dealing with."

Chief Burns encourages members of the community that are interested in law enforcement to check out the opportunities available at the Sioux Falls Police Department.
