Guess which city is the “pinkest” in North America?  According to a Huffington Post article, it’s Sioux Falls.  An article written by Huff Post author Kristan Lawson talks about the pink Sioux Quartzite and how our many historic buildings, roads and even Falls Park are all adorned in the varying hues pink Quartzite.

Capitalizing on our new famous pink status, Downtown Sioux Falls has proclaimed a week of celebrations, Downtown Sioux Falls Pink Week, September 23 to 30, 2015.

Women are encouraged to come downtown for a fabulous ladies' night out during the Ladies Ultimate Showcase Tour on Thursday, September 24 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM.  The Susan G. Komen 5K Race for the Cure run and walk is Sunday September 27, 2015.

I honestly had never even thought about all the pink in our historic buildings, rock outcroppings and roads in the area till my now husband, then boyfriend came to visit me in Sioux Falls from Canada in the mid 90's.  One of the first things he commented on as he got east river on I-90 was that the roads were pink.  To me the roads were just "normal" color!  It wasn't until living in other parts of the world that I realized what a treasure our Pink Quartzite is, to the point that we had a moving truck haul our precious Sioux Falls rock from one home to the next in Canada for a landscaping project.  Yes we paid to move it by the pound, and it was worth it!  By the way, there's a little bit of Sioux Quartzite still in place on Vancouver Island, British Columbia Canada thanks to our family's love of beautiful pink rock from home.  Now that we're back in Sioux Falls, we can enjoy seeing it every day.
