Sioux Falls Offering Texts, E-Mail and Social Media Snow Alerts to Individuals

The first measurable snow of the season hit Sioux Falls last weekend, dumping six inches on the city streets. Being in radio, weather is something I'm always aware of and sometimes I forget that not everyone pays as close attention to it as I do. The city of Sioux Falls also realizes that not everyone is tuned in to how much snow is falling or when the plows will actually be out on city streets, so they're offering a free service to make sure you know when the plows are coming to your neighborhood.

If Sioux Falls gets two or more inches of snow, the plows will be out on Snow Emergency routes and if you're parked on one, you're subject to ticketing and towing. The city wrote over 1000 tickets last weekend for people who didn't move their vehicles even after the snow alert was issued, which means the city is going to plow ALL the roads in town, not just the Snow Emergency routes.
