Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens says an attempted robbery took place on Wednesday at an apartment in the east side of the city.

"Four people, two men and two women, came over to the apartment. One of the men thought that our victim had taken his cell phone. He ended up pulling a handgun and threatening him with it. The two men then beat the victim a few times. Nothing serious. He didn't have any serious injuries from that. They ended up searching the victim's pockets and did not find the phone they were looking for. Those men left and someone said they were calling the police. We were able to find them later in the evening."

18-year-old Dylan Nichols was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and first degree robbery.

18-year-old Gordon Standingbear Junior was charged with one count of simple assault.

These two have been in brushes with the law before. They were both part of a drug bust on June 15, 2015 on West 33rd Street. They were out of jail on bond before their most recent arrest.

In the bust ten days ago, Police Captain Greg VandeKamp said the arrest involved seven people including Nichols and Standing Bear, Jr. “The task force has been working on an investigation that led to a search warrant at that location. (W. 33rd St.) Upon execution of the search warrant, they did locate a number of items relating to drug use and or distribution. In this case, a marijuana grow along with some meth. The occupants of the residence were arrested on a number of charges relating to obtaining a house where drugs are sold to possession of marijuana…felony as they were doing a grow—also possession of a controlled substance.”

Two other adults were arrested in the June 15 incident, 45 year old Craig Nichols Sr. 45; and 42 year old Nichola Nichols of Sioux Falls. In addition, three juveniles were taken into custody.
