Mayor Mike Huether presented a $467 million budget to the Sioux Falls City Council on Tuesday (July 27). The top two expenditures are public safety and streets.

Nearly 40 percent of the budget ($60.4 million) is slated for public safety, with the hiring of four additional officers and building a new fire station. Highways and street expenses would take up 16 percent of the budget ($25.2 million).

Mayor Huether says there are many positives in the financial outlook of Sioux Falls. He also says there are challenges, including hiring staff in an economy with a low unemployment rate and funding nearly $10 million annually for the Sioux
Area Metro.

The $467 million budget is down $4 million from 2016, but up $60 million from 2015.
