If you’ve been paying attention to the news lately, then I’m sure you are aware of the fact that J.C. Penny is going through some tough times at the moment.
The struggling retailer on Wednesday announced that it would be closing 33 stores nationwide as part of a strategic turnaround.
The good news for all of us here in Sioux Falls, the Empire Mall J.C. Penny store will not be one of the stores closing.
J.C. Penny is expected to cut around 2,000 positions, resulting in an annual cost savings of nearly $65 million, beginning in 2014. Most of the stores are expected to be closed by May.
The store closest to Sioux Falls that will be closing is the J.C.Penny in the Northland Mall in Worthington, Minnesota.
