A cracked windshield forced a flight that originated from Sioux Falls to make an emergency landing in Wichita, Kansas.

Flight 2539 headed toward Dallas experienced trouble as it reached Salina, Kansas around 8 am Monday.  For some reason the windshield cracked on the co-pilot’s side.  Spokeswoman Valerie Wise says after an initial damage assessment, the plane was cleared to make an emergency landing at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport.

The plane carrying 52 people aboard including passengers and crew landed safely at 8:35.  No one was injured onboard the Embraer regional jet which was being flown as a subsidiary of American Airlines.

Passenger Joyce Berg spoke to KSN-TV in Wichita and noted that the flight crew exhibited grace under pressure.  “The pilot came on the air and said that they’ve experienced some difficulty.  It was calm.  People weren’t alarmed.  The flight attendant was very calm with us.”

Investigators have not yet determined the origin of the problem.
