One Sioux Falls resident kicked off the New Year with a fire that destroyed their garage.

The blaze began around 2:30 Sunday morning, January 1 (2017) at a residence located at 2304 South Lake Avenue.

KSFY TV is reporting that firefighters arrived to find flames and smoke emanating from the front of a detached garage.

19 firefighters using four trucks, and three support vehicles worked for nearly an hour to extinguish the flames.

Firefighters were assisted by crews from the Sioux Falls Police Department, Paramedics Plus Ambulance, Sioux Falls Public Works, Excel Energy, MidAmerican Gas and the Red Cross throughout the process.

No one was injured as a result of the blaze. An investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
