Temperatures are moderating today, and much warmer weather is expected by the weekend.

But sub-zero temperatures and bitterly cold wind chills early Monday combined for some miserable working conditions as Sioux Falls Fire Rescue crews fought a house fire near East 12th Street and South Bahnson Avenue.

Battalion Chief Mark Bukovich says one of the biggest problems in the cold is that hose lines freeze up:

Bukovich says extra personnel were also called in for the early-morning fire so commanders could rotate crews and let firefighters warm up periodically.
