Normally the largest city in South Dakota wants to be at the top of the list. Being at the bottom of this category is preferred status.

The latest AAA South Dakota fuel price survey shows statewide the price of a gallon of gasoline dropped by about a dime over the last seven days. A ten-city survey averages the price to by $2.37 per gallon.

Sioux Falls is well below the rest of the cities in the survey at $2.09 with a mini gas war over the weekend driving the price under $2.00 at some filling stations. Other locales are not so lucky as a few miles north drivers pay $2.43 in Brookings and $2.32 in Watertown.

Going west will set you back $2.44 per gallon in Mitchell, $2.53 in Rapid City and $2.56 in Pierre. Huron is the highest in the state in this survey at $2.62 as prices have been slow to drop there when compared to other towns.

Marilyn Buskohl, spokeswoman for AAA South Dakota says for the most part the steady decline should continue. “It’s the same old story, crude oil is down and petroleum is in good supply.” Generally most are paying a dollar less per gallon today in South Dakota than at this time last year.
