There are two new reports out highlighting how fortunate we are to be living here in this part of the country.

The first report is from the folks at Marketwatch.  They have determined that Sioux Falls, South Dakota is the best "small" town to retire in.  Rapid City is ranked 10th.  To read the complete report, click here.

The second report comes from Wallethub.  They have determined that South Dakota is the fifth best state to be a taxpayer.  We came in #1 in several categories, however.  Wyoming was #1 overall.  To read more on the Wallethub report, click here.

After looking over both reports, I walked away feeling pretty good about where my wife and I decided to put down roots and raise a family.

Yes, I know, there are those who argue certain professions aren't paid enough in this part of the country.  But at the same time, you also have to take into account the tax structure we live under.  That's where this part of the country truly shines.

Do I wish I was getting paid more money at my job?  Of course I do, who doesn't?  But I''m also glad I'm not paying the taxes that workers in other parts of the country have to fork over each year.

That's why when people start complaining about how little they make, I ask them what they paid in taxes last year, and what that same occupation has to fork over in other states.

You can't compare apples to oranges!

Given all that, I still think South Dakota is a pretty great place to call home!
