Time for some good news and some bad news. The good news, we finally got some precipitation the past couple of days.

The bad news, during your typical April in the Sioux Falls area we see around 3 inches of precipitation. We're into May and we haven't even seen an inch of rain yet, so we need more. Hopefully Mother Nature plans on turning on the spicket with a little more consistency in the future to help keep the farmers happy and everything else nice and green throughout the Sioux Empire.

With the warmer weather, comes lawn watering season.

So the City of Sioux Falls Public Works Water Division has once again put together a  year-round lawn watering schedule to make sure we are utilizing our water resources in an efficient manner.

Currently the city is in stage 1 of this schedule. That means all all residential, commercial, industrial, and City facilities use the following lawn watering schedule:

  • Watering lawns is prohibited during the hours between 12 PM to 5 PM.
  • Users with even-numbered addresses may water lawns on even-numbered calendar dates.
  • Users with odd-numbered addresses may water lawns on odd-numbered calendar dates.

You also have the green-light to hand water vegetation such as shrubbery, trees, ground covers, plants, vines, gardens, vegetables, and flowers any time of day if the water is applied by a hose that does not leak and is equipped with a hand-held nozzle that automatically shuts off when released.

A copy of this schedule will be coming soon in your utility bill. But if you'd like additional lawn watering information visit the Sioux Falls water conservation website.
