Police continue to investigate reports of shots fired and evidence to support those shots from an incident Saturday afternoon (January 13).

According to a statement from Sergeant Andrew Siebenborn, at 03:04 PM the Sioux Falls Police Department responded to a report of gunshots near the 3500 block of S Larch Avenue.

"When officers responded to the area they found evidence of gunshots near this location," said Siebenborn. "Several witnesses have been interviewed and no arrests have been made at this time."

Police continue to look for tips from the public for their ongoing investigation.

If you are ever in a situation where you hear gunshots, call police for help and they can investigate what you heard. An article from the New York Post offers simple, yet potential life saving information:

  1. Act fast.  Your body may go into a self preservation frozen state.  Snap out of that state and into action.
  2. Determine if you can safely escape determined by where the shots are coming from.
  3. If you can't escape, barricade yourself and lie on the floor.
  4. Fight for your life if you need to as a last resort.  If you're with others, the New York times suggest trying to tackle the shooter.  When authorities arrive be sure your hands are view-able to police and that you're not holding anything that could perceived as a weapon.
