A South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper was cited after a two-vehicle crash late Sunday afternoon in western Sioux Falls.

Police Sergeant Darren McClary says  the trooper was westbound on 41st Street just before 6pm, with red lights and siren activated, when the trooper drove through a red light and struck a vehicle that was northbound on Sertoma Avenue with a green light.

McClary says the occupants of the northbound vehicle did not require immediate medical attention.

The trooper, whose name was not released, was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device. Both vehicles were disabled in the crash.
