The South Dakota Cosmetology Commission sounding the alarm about a scam underway in South Dakota. It's a salon inspection scam. Salons have been getting calls asking for money to continue with the yearly inspection process.

The state Commission reminds business owners and employees that there is no fee for the annual salon or booth inspection. Also, inspectors are not allowed to accept any fees owed to the Commission.

“Our office staff do not call licensees to request your credit card to pay for an inspection or any other fees,” said Executive Director Kate Boyd said in a statement. “If you receive a phone call requesting credit card information to continue with your yearly inspection, please hang up.”

Persons who have given out credit card information should contact their bank or credit card company immediately and report the incident to the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Protection at 800-300-1986 or consumerhelp@state.sd.us.
