The United States Postal Service is going to stop delivering mail on Saturdays starting August 1.

Traditional mail has steadily declined for the last decade. Meanwhile the delivery of packages has increased. The reason for both is the same: the Internet. Correspondence via mail is inefficient with all of the instant forms of written communication. Meanwhile the increasing number of goods purchased on the Internet has led to increased package delivery.

The USPS will continue to deliver priority mail on Saturdays. Plans for the change are expected to be announced today.
