Rounds Says No to Bureaucracy, Yes to Huckabee

Some think the federal bureaucracy is getting too big. And Republican U.S. Senator Mike Rounds wants to slow down its growth.

The first-term senator thinks Congress should play a bigger role in how agencies make federal rules. These are rules that impact everything from drinking water to product safety.

Rounds would like to see a system more like South Dakota’s. That's where legislators play a major role in approving—or disapproving—new regulations.

“With federal regulators being able to move rules through at a very rapid rate, there has to be a way to slow down the regulatory processes that are going on right now," Rounds said. "They are making the biggest federal impact on the average American citizen today.”

For the GOP presidential nomination, Rounds says he supports former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. Rounds says the nominee needs to have a steady hand for what might be difficult times with Russia and Iran.

“I think what people are going to find as we move into this presidential election year, as President Obama’s term winds down, you will see more of other actors out there testing to see how far they any push the United States,” Rounds said.

Senator Rounds made his comments Tuesday on KSOO’s Viewpoint University.
