Rihanna Calls Journalist a ‘Sad Sloppy Menopausal Mess’ for Daring to Criticize Her

This weekend, Rihanna posted selfies while smoking two ginormous blunts. No surprise there — she’s a known pal of Mary Jane’s. She also poses topless on the regular (and doesn’t hesitate to slip a bottomless shot that angers her mother into the mix every now and then).

But it seems Daily Mail journalist Liz Jones doesn’t much appreciate Rih’s shenanigans, and she took the pop tart to task for being a bad role model — which, in Rihanna’s defense, is something the singer never purported to be. And whoa, did she fire back in nasty fashion.

Cat fight — claws out.

A lengthy Daily Mail piece, which you can read here, deems the singer “toxic” and is filled with pictures culled from Rih’s heavily-populated Instagram feed.

It systematically attacks the singer for things including her gun-shaped smartphone case; images of drug paraphernalia on her single covers; her penchant for going scantily clad; her propensity for drinking in public; her much-maligned relationship with Chris Brown; her tattoos; the fact that she breathes air; and much more.

In the end, Jones issued a fatwa. (Okay, so it was more like a Surgeon General’s warning, but still.) It was harsh, as she declared: “This poisonous pop princess should come with a government health warning.”

Since Jones deigned to critique Rihanna, she in turn took it upon herself to lash out at Jones, posting a super unflattering photo, calling her a lazy journalist, and sizing her up as “a sad sloppy menopausal mess.”

The post is as follows:

“LOL!!!! My money got a bad habit of pissing people off!! If you sincerely wanna help little girls more than their own parents do, here’s a toxic tip: don’t be amateur with your articles, you sound bitter! What’s all this about hair and nails and costumes and tattoos?? ….That s— ain’t clever!!! That s— ain’t journalism! That’s a sad sloppy menopausal mess!!! Nobody over here acts like they’re perfect! I don’t pretend that I’m like you, i just live… My life!! And I don’t know why y’all still act so surprised by any of it!! “Role Model” is not a position or title that I have ever campaigned for, so chill wit dat! I got my own f—ed up s— to work on, I’ll never portray that as perfect, but for right now it’s ME!! Call it what ya want!! Toxic was cute, Poisonous Pop Princess had a nice ring to it, just a lil wordy! And P.S. my first American Vogue cover was in 2011…APRIL!!! #ElizabethAnnJones”

While Rihanna has a famously thin skin for criticism, she did pop some clever turns of phrase here, and also admitted she has issues to work out. It’s a telling response that says as much about her as it does Jones.

Maybe the ladies should just have a charity cage match to settle this.
