‘Remington Steele’ Sequel?
‘The Simpsons‘ once put it best by implying that the world remembers Pierce Brosnan for his iconic take on James Bond, not his five-season stint as NBC’s similarly-tuxedoed ‘Remington Steele,’ but the past may come back to haunt him in a big way. NBC has revealed plans to reboot the classic conman series with a sequel adaptation from ‘Zombieland‘ director Ruben Fleischer, but with one notable twist: turning it into a half-hour comedy!
Deadline broke the news, clarifying that the 1982 Pierce Brosnan-Stephanie Zimbalist detective drama would find new life as a sequel series that follows the daughter of Remington Steele and Laura Holt, as Olivia Holt reopens the world-famous Remington Steele Detective Agency from the original series. Jay Scherick and David Ronn will write the script with Fleischer on board to produce and direct the pilot, turning the format into a half-hour comedy series full of “the same hilarious, action-packed, romantic entanglements”
For those unfamiliar with the original series, ‘Remington Steele’ ran for five seasons between 1982 and 1987, following private detective Laura Holt (Stephanie Zimbalist) as she recruits a con man (Brosnan) to pose as her male superior Remington Steele. Naturally, sexy results ensued, and saw the characters eventually getting together in the series finale. So far, the rebooted version only has a script commitment plus penalty, with no knowledge of any potential involvement from Pierce Brosnan
