The Sioux Falls Skyforce and Scotty Hopson tore through Reno to beat the Bighorns 141-128 on Tuesday night at the Sanford Pentagon.

Philosophically, Reno (14-21) wants to play fast and induce mistakes. In doing so, the Bighorns have scored 135 points per game this season. They also give up on average 136 per game with players capable of having big nights as a result.

Hopson made this the biggest of the season with a Skyforce franchise record 52 points. The previous best was established by Ralph Lewis in 1989 during Season 1 and matched by Kasib Powell during his NBADL MVP season in 2008. Another franchise standard was set when Hopson accomplished this feat by making 21 shots (in 28 attempts). Six other players had connected 17 times in a game previously. The most recent example was Reggie Williams in 2010.

By the end of the first quarter, Hopson was trending in that direction with 17 points with 29 to his credit by halftime. The former Tennessee guard was at 40 by the end of the third and was removed from the game with under a minute left. Upon leaving the court, Hopson went to center court, kissed the floor, pointed to the sky and made his exit. To augment the point total, Hopson grabbed 7 rebounds with 4 assists and 4 steals. Get a look at how it all played out on the highlight reel below.

This marks the second 50-point game this year at the Sanford Pentagon. Jabari Brown posted exactly 50 points on January 10 for the Los Angeles D-Fenders. Hopson now holds the top mark in the league this season. In NBADL history only four players have scored more. Last year, Idaho guard Pierre Jackson set the mark with 58 points.

In the big picture Sioux Falls (19-15) snapped a two-game losing streak while never trailing and leading by as many as 26 points. Leading contributors were Fuquan Edwin (22 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds), Andre Dawkins (20 points) and Shawn Jones (13 points, 11 rebounds).

Reno had a two-pronged attack with Tajuan Porter leading with 37 points while Ra’shad James was right behind with 31 tallies. Porter incidentally wore a Skyforce uniform last year for a few games so he felt quite comfortable at the Pentagon.

From here, Reno heads to Austin to face the Spurs on Thursday. That same night Sioux Falls will host the Erie BayHawks for their next engagement.
