It's a record-breaking year in Sioux Falls, and it isn't over yet.

City officials say the construction value of building permits issued so far is up to nearly $524.3 million, with more than two months to go.

Some of the big-ticket projects this year include the Scheels addition and remodeling, the northside Walmart. a new building for Glanbia Nutritionals, Empire Mall updates and the new Costco store.

The new Denny Sanford PREMIER Center is also part of the total, but at $32.2 million, it's a fraction of the total.

Cit officials say the old record of $523.1 was set in 2007, and the construction value through October of last year was $382.6 million.

Planning and Building Services Director Mike Cooper says the 2013 totals also include 928 multiple-family units, well above the 485 units permitted in all of 2012.
