.The month of March 2015 saw the highest construction valuation for building permits in Sioux Falls’ history with a total of $110,267,696. This brings the year’s total construction valuation to $155,738,379.

The construction valuation in March 2014 was $63.6 million, and $64.2 million in 2013. The 15-year average March construction valuation is $31.5 million.

The previous record for the highest monthly construction valuation occurred in April 2013 with $90.2 million, which was a direct result of the issuance of a partial permit for the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

The major projects permitted in March include:

  • Augustana Froiland Science Center $20.4 million
  • Good Samaritan Ryan Building $15.2 million
  • Good Samaritan Hoeger Building $7.3 million
  • Good Samaritan Jerstad Building $2.0 million
  • Edith Sanford Cancer Center Addition $8.5 million
  • Avera NICU Remodel $3.7 million
  • Zuercher Technologies $3.2 million
  • Avera McKennan Patient Upgrade, 1 West $2.2 million
  • Midwest Bank Remodel $1.6 million
  • Diamond Field Commons $1.4 million

“It’s rare for so many large projects to be permitted in the same month, but this goes to show that building activity is not slowing down in this town,” says Ron Bell, Chief Building Official.
