Rapid City Residential Building Permits Soar

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The number of residential building permits approved by Rapid City through August is more than 80 higher than last year's total.

The Rapid City Journal reports that single-family home permits and commercial building permits are holding steady or are on track to be lower than last year.

The city approved 219 building permits for residential units last year. By the end of August, it had approved 301.

Community Planning Director Brett Limbaugh says the city is seeing an increase in multi-family units, such as apartments and four-plexes.

Single-family permits have remained at a steady 129 as of Aug. 31, compared to a total of 157 last year.
