Rachel Coleman, Woman Accused of Injuring Trooper, Charged with DUI
SIOUX FALLS - A woman accused of injuring a South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper by hitting him with her car during an October chase is facing an additional charge.
Rachel Coleman pleaded not guilty Tuesday to drunken driving. She had pleaded not guilty earlier to attempted murder and several other charges.
Authorities say the 25-year-old Coleman struck Trooper Andrew Steen with her car while he was trying to pull her over for erratic driving early Oct. 17.
Steen is recovering after two surgeries to remove part of his skull to relieve pressure on his brain, and then to replace it. He was released from the hospital shortly before Christmas.
The grand jury did not have Coleman's blood-alcohol results when the original charges were filed.
Coleman faces a maximum penalty of life in prison.
