Each year The Banquet in Sioux Falls gives away over 6,000 backpacks to children whose families have limited resources. It's called 'Project SOS - Supply One Student.'

This year's distribution day is Saturday August 19 at Whittier Middle School, located at 930 East 6th Street. Hours run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

In order for a child to recieve a free backpack, complete with school supplies, they have to be present, accompanied by an adult and have one form of identification.

Identification can be anything from a social security card, medicaid card, birth certificate, library card or passport.

If, for some reason, your child is unable to attend the Saturday giveaway, backpacks will also be given away the first day of school, Tuesday September 5 at The Banquet.

Given the fact Project SOS in an on-going effort, backpacks and school supplies are accepted year-round. Monetary donations are always welcome as well.
