If you're driving to the Twin Cities this weekend, get ready to see a lot of purple as the state honors the late Prince with a declaration of 'Prince Day' throughout the state on Friday April 21st.

Special events are scheduled at First Avenue, the night club in Minneapolis that was an intrigual part in launching his career.  The star's home, Paisley Park will also have a memorial and celebration of his life.

The I-35 bridge across the Mississippi will be lit up Purple.

Governor Dayton said he appreciated that Prince “showcased Minnesota to the world” and embraced his roots.

Prince died April 21, 2016 of an accidental painkiller overdose.  Documents recently revealed to the public depict a man struggling with opiod abuse.
