If South Dakota State is going to advance to the Sweet Sixteen of the 2016 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, the Jackrabbits are going to have to knock off a former champion on its home floor.

The 12th seeded Jackrabbits battle fourth-seeded Stanford in Northern California, Monday night.

SDSU is riding the momentum of a 74-71 over #5 Miami, in round one Saturday. The Jackrabbits SDSU got 19 points from freshman Madison Guebert, who made five of SDSU's eight three-pointers. Sophomore Macy Miller, followed up a quiet first half with with 14 second half points on 4-of-7 seven shooting and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line, in the last 20 minutes. She finished with 18 points. Sophomore Ellie Thompson scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half on 3-of-5 shooting.

The Jackrabbits took advantage of ice-cold Miami shooting in the second half. The Hurricanes missed their first 12 shots the third quatrer.

SDSU is the round of 32 despite turning the ball over 22 times, which led to 24 Hurricane points. SDSU also missed six free throws in the game's final minute, but survived for their first NCAA Tournament win since beating TCU in March of 2009.

The Jacks dominated the Hurricanes on the boards, 50-39. Junior Clarissa Ober led SDSU with nine rebounds, senior Gabby Boever had eight, junior Kerri Young added seven.

Fourth-seed Stanford showed no signs of rust after a two-week layoff, beating #13 San Francisco 85-58 in round one Saturday. The Cardinal got double figure scoring from four players, including a double-double from junior Erica McCall (14 points, 10 rebounds). Stanford shot 53 percent in the first half and blew the game open in the second and third quarters, outscoring the Dons 53-27. USF shot just 30 percent in the game and was just 2-of-14 from behind the three-point line.

Stanford, a perennial national power, and past NCAA Champion (1990, 1992), led by hall of fame coach Tara VanDerveer. The Cardinal are playing with a bit of a chip of their shoulders this postseason after not winning either the Pac 12 regular season title or tournament championship for the first time in a dozen years.

Defense is a key for Stanford. The Cardinal is second in the nation in opponents shooting percentage (33%). They are also in the top 20 in blocked shots and fewest points allowed.

On offense, a trio of juniors lead the way. Lili Thompson averages 15 points per game, McCall averages a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds per game), and Karlie Samuelson is fifth in the nation in three-point accuracy (45%). She averages 12 points per game.

Stanford should be well rested. No starter played more than 26 minutes in the San Fransisco game.

Tipoff is 8:00 PM CDT, Monday.
