Former Senator Larry Pressler has accepted the invitation to join the Founder's Circle of the Centrist Project.

The Centrist Project works for bipartisan elections and centrist, moderate, problem solving thinking in politics, universities, and throughout society. Pressler will be a volunteer part-time council member and he will continue to teach in colleges across South Dakota.

Pressler says he is living in Sioux Falls, chipping away at the $250,000 debt he acquired from running as an independent candidate for the U.S. Senate.

“We ran a totally positive campaign,” Pressler said. “I’m proud of it and I’m glad I ran. I believe we raised the standard for positive political campaigns in South Dakota and throughout America. I want to continue to work for more centrist thinking in American society.”

The former Republican South Dakota U.S. Senator says both the Republican and Democratic parties have served well in many instances, but the present poisonous relationship between them is destructive to the nation. He adds that the public must shake off its apathy and start listening to the real issues in campaigns, rather than negative ads.

“We must raise the tone of politics in America,” Pressler said.

Pressler also says he will continue on the board of directors of the Jericho Project Veterans Advisory Council for homeless veterans.
