After turning the calendars to the month of March on Sunday, we know that spring is near. We also know that winter is not over just yet.

A winter storm is bearing down on South Dakota as the week begins.

The National Weather Service posted winter storm and blizzard watches for late Monday and Tuesday. Forecasters said two to five inches of snow is possible, with the highest amounts falling north of Interstate 90.

Winds of 30 to 45 mph are expected to blow the snow around and reduce visibilities. Wind gusts could reach 50 mph.

Wind chills early Wednesday are expected to be in the minus teens and 20s.
