Two Sioux Falls men are charged with drug offenses after police say they were found in a convenience store parking lot with drugs and a handgun.

Officer Sam Clemens says police were notified shortly before 1:00 am Monday that the men were in an SUV in the lot in the 2600 block of West 12th Street with a bag containing a white substance.

Clemens says the caller gave a vehicle description and police located the two men when they arrived at the store.

He says an officer who went to talk with the men noticed the passenger seemed to be pushing something down next to the console. The officer also smelled marijuana, and when the men got out police also found a handgun between the seat and the console.

Police also found various jeweler's bags, some of which had a small amount of meth in them.

Clemens identified the men as the driver, 30-year-old Daniel Sweeris of Sioux Falls, and the passenger, 32-year-old Deandre Cannon, also of Sioux Falls.

They were charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, and one was charged with possession of a concealed weapon.

Clemens says police found close to three grams of meth, scales and chunks of a substance that tested positive for crack cocaine.
