Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Sam Clemens says a 39-year-old woman was sexually assaulted early Sunday morning at 9th Street and Duluth Avenue.

"There was an SUV that pulled in front of her and boxed her in. The man got out of the SUV and came to her car. He threatened her with a knife and then raped her. When he was done, the suspect ended up leaving and she reported the attack later on."

Clemens offers suggestions to others that are in a similar situation.

"There really is not one thing we can tell people to be safe. Pay attention: if there are different avenues to get out of that situation, take them. If you're in your car, lock the doors, drive a different way, back up, whatever you can do to get out of that situation to protect yourself."

Clemens says the victim has provided limited details about the assailant, except to say he is a black man.
