Person of Interest in Sioux Falls Homicide Found by Trooper

UPDATE 3:06 PM: Sioux Falls Police issued a press release detailing an arrest warrant for 43-year old Irving Duane Jumping Eagle on counts of First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder and Manslaughter. The warrant carries a bond of $1 million cash. 

Sioux Falls Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says the person of interest in a homicide was located in Deuel County Tuesday morning (April 4).

"Irving Jumping Eagle was found on Interstate 29 by a South Dakota trooper. At this time, we are still continuing with the investigation. Detectives from Sioux Falls will be going to talk to him. Hopefully we will learn what he knows about this homicide."

Duel County Sheriff Sgt. Cory Borg told KXLG Radio in Watertown how they were able to find Irving Jumping Eagle.

"The vehicle hit a bridge at the Toronto exit. Crews on scene didn't find anyone in the vehicle. He was found a short ways away from the accident site and was taken into custody without incident. He was then transported by ambulance to the Brookings hospital."

Clemens says the apartment manager found the victim, 33-year-old Alicia Rhae Jumping Eagle, in her apartment.

"There was a missing person report made April 2nd to the sheriff's office. They went to her apartment in Sioux Falls to try to find her. They weren't able to make contact. The apartment manager happened to go inside and saw some blood and called police. Officers found Alicia was deceased inside the apartment. They noticed some stab wounds. But, there will be an autopsy the determine the cause and manner of death at some point later."

Once Irving Jumping Eagle is released from the hospital, he will be transported to Minnehaha County.
