Pedestrian Killed in South-Central South Dakota

A pedestrian died Sunday evening in a crash on US Highway 83, one mile north of White River, in Mellette County.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says Randy Larvie, 25, of Yankton was walking on the highway around 7:50pm when he was struck by a northbound SUV driven by Jerin Warkentin, 19, of Murray, Kentucky.

The Patrol says contact was made between Larvie and the vehicle, and Larvie suffered fatal injuries.

Warkentin and his passenger, 22-year-old Marissa Warkentin, also of Murray, Kentucky, were not injured.
