It's the most wonderful time of the year and all sorts of fun activities are starting to pop up all over the Sioux Empire.

One of those activities took place on Sunday afternoon in Sioux Falls as over a hundred people, dressed in Christmas tree skirts, ran through downtown.

It was all part of the first ever ‘Let me Run’ a program for boys to build teamwork skills and promote healthy lifestyles.

The festive group of Christmas tree runners endured the snow, the ice and cold temps to help raise money for a great cause. All proceeds during the first year of the run benefited local Sioux Falls boys.

Organizers are hopeful this unique one of a kind race will attract even more runners in years to come.

According to race director, Karen Lechtenberg, “We just kind of came up with this idea of wearing a Christmas tree skirt and running. It is a short three, two and one mile run. We thought it'd be fun and festive, plus, you get two uses out of that skirt."

Area businesses like the 605 Running Company and The Cookie Jar donated prizes for the ‘Let me Run’ event. Every participant also received a t-shirt and a free pair of Christmas socks.
