According to an Alton Towers Resort poll, one-in-ten children do not realize that they live on planet Earth. The poll surveyed 500 six-to-ten-year-olds. The test also showed that children could easily recognize celebrities such as David Beckham and Simon Cowell, but had a hard time identifying an avocado.

It's all ages as well. You see it in high school students and even college students. I'm not condemning the 'millenials' and children in general, but there seems to be a bigger disconnect now with more information than ever readily available, then there was when when Baby Boomers and even Gen X'rs were that age.

Have we become obsessed with 'celebrity'? When we have people like Paris Hilton and the Kardashian's who are simply famous for being famous? Where we know reality TV teenagers who have kids, but we can't identify one U.S. Senator??

It starts at home. Try to spend a little more quality time with your kids and your grandkids and by quality time, I don't mean watching an episode of iCarly or Teen Mom 2 with them. I mean talking about school, current events, things that are going to impact not only their present, but their future. Teach them common courtesy.

And teach them that we live on planet Earth and that Uranus really is a planet and not a running joke on Honey Boo Boo.
