One Direction Have Made More Than $161 Million Since Appearing on ‘X Factor’
One Direction are pretty much printing money. A new report reveals that the boys have raked in more than $161 million since appearing on ‘X Factor‘ in the U.K. To think that they didn’t even win their season, either!
The group first appeared on the show approximately two years ago and they’ve gone on to enjoy massive global success, cornering the much-coveted U.S. market, selling 3 million copies of ‘Up All Night’ and racking up endorsement deals. Not to mention they also have their own dolls. Clearly, a Directioner and her money are soon parted whenever new 1D merch is made available.
According to The Sun, a revised edition of Simon Cowell‘s ‘Sweet Justice’ bio revealed the band’s earnings. Cowell famously put the boys of 1D together as collective after rejecting them as solo performers on the show. Smart, smart move, Simon.
Biographer Tom Bower wrote:
“The songs, publishing, discs, DVDs, merchandising and endorsements brought in huge profits, with the five members of the group together estimated to have earned nearly £100million. Naturally, Sony and Syco raked in much more.”
Bower estimates that the 1D cash machine will churn out more money in 2013, with ‘Take Me Home’ set to drop this November. The album will be followed by touring, promotional appearances and plenty of opportunities to sign endorsement deals and make more cash. The fivesome has signed a deal with Pepsi, as well.
We bet the British ‘X Factor’ viewers are kicking themselves for sending 1D home in December 2010.
