Noem Shutdown Vote Blasted by South Dakota Democrats

The votes were tallied in favor of the bill before the House of Representatives and Senate that re-opened the government on Wednesday night.  President Obama signed the bill, but it doesn’t mean the issue is settled.

It’s not just because the measure is temporary either.  On one hand, the elected folk may well have these discussions again early next year.  The other side of the coin is that vote will be dissected to no end.  South Dakota Representative Kristi Noem voted against the bill and gave her explanation in a brief statement which is listed below in its entirety.

“This agreement will reopen the government and stop any talk of a default, which are both good things.  However, I could not support this bill because it didn’t do anything to address our continued deficit spending, which has resulted in a $17 trillion debt.”

Soon after, Zach Crago the Executive Director of the South Dakota Democratic Party responded with a blistering take on Noem’s decision.

“Unbelievable. Congresswoman Kristi Noem had the audacity to tell west river ranchers that she’d do everything to open our closed FSA offices then returned to Washington and voted against a bipartisan bill to open the government. Maybe Noem thinks South Dakotans aren’t paying attention. She’s wrong.

“Let there be no doubt any longer that Congresswoman Kristi Noem is going to put the tea party ahead of South Dakotans when we need her the most. This vote may be a long forgotten memory for Noem come November 2014, but South Dakotans won’t forget the pain she caused forcing a tea party government shutdown.”

Time will tell if the kick from the Democrats will resonate or if the Republican effort prevails.
