A house fire broke out Thursday afternoon, September 17, in Sioux Falls at a residence located at 1443 North Main.

The initial report was the resident heard a loud explosion and that smoke was coming from the basement of the home.

Fire crews arrived on the scene to find smoke emanating from the crawl space of a single family home.

The sole resident was out of the home at the time fire units arrived and was unharmed.

Fire crews confirmed there was no one else in the dwelling and were forced to extinguish the blaze from the exterior due to structural concerns and energized utilities.

The resident of the home is currently being helped out by the Red Cross, due to the fact the house is uninhabitable as a result of damage from the fire.
