Vehicle owners in Sioux Falls now have another way to be informed about snow alerts this winter.

The City of Sioux Falls has begun offering a text alert service to notify residents of snow alerts.

You can subscribe by sending a text with the word SNOW to 605-413-1990, or go to  http://www.siouxfalls.org/snow to subscribe to text, email, or social  media notifications.

City Street and Fleet Operations Manager Galynn Huber says "We're excited about being able to provide another way for residents to be notified when a snow alert is declared."

Huber says snow removal is more effective and efficient when citizens know about parking restrictions and get their vehicles off the streets.

City officials also remind vehicle owners that if you park on an emergency snow route, you need to be especially aware of weather conditions.

After two inches of snow has fallen, day or night, vehicles parked on emergency snow routes can be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.

More information about snow alerts is available at the city's website.
