FISHMONGER ACTORS THEATRE MISSION:

Fishmongers Actors Theatre is a professional theatre company committed to producing innovative, new, and regional premieres of theatrical works that are entertaining, interesting, and thought provoking; to provide a platform and workshop for local and regional actors and playwrights; to cultivate an artistic community in Sioux Falls and produce theatrical works that are accessible to non-traditional theatre-goers.

VISION:
To become the region’s foremost professional and semi-Equity professional performing arts organization specializing in new works and regional premieres.

OPPORTUNITY:

Good theatre breeds more theatre. Currently the Sioux Falls theatre community is comprised of the Washington Pavilion, a venue showcasing nationally recognized touring productions featuring outside talent, and the Sioux Empire Community Theatre, a volunteer-based producing house that features local talent performing well-known and long-established theatrical works. Fishmonger Actors Theatre will become the third leg in the tripod. Fishmonger will offer professional opportunities to local acting and writing talent. Fishmongers will focus on producing regional premieres of lesser-known and sometimes original works that will appeal to mature audiences in mature settings. Fishmonger believes that targeting an audience of non- traditional theatre goers will enhance the broader Sioux Falls artistic community. By widening audiences Fishmonger will be creating more opportunity for all of Sioux Falls’ theatre organizations.

STRUCTURE:

Chris Andrews, Patrick Pope, and Jesse Jensen are the founding ensemble members.

Ensemble Members: Ensemble members are actors with whom Fishmonger Actors Theatre has a mutual commitment. Ensemble members commit to being cast in the production season and need not audition. Fishmonger commits to casting an ensemble member during its production season.

Associate Members: Associate members are actors to whom Fishmonger has made no commitment, but do not require an audition.

LONG-TERM GOAL:
To become an Equity company that serves as an artistic home for Sioux Falls talent. As an Equity company, Fishmongers Actors Theatre will provide an opportunity for professional actors with Sioux Falls roots to return to their home and assist in promoting and cultivating live local theatre. This is currently a long-term goal and no one from Fishmonger has reached out to current national performing arts figures. It will take time to develop into a company that can offer opportunities to Equity performers.
