A Huron attorney has been appointed to be a magistrate judge in the Third Judicial Circuit in South Dakota.

Presiding Judge Tim Tucker says Carmen Means will be sworn in on April 19.

The Madison native has been a public defender and a public advocate, and most recently has been in private practice for a firm in Huron.

The Third Judicial Circuit includes Beadle, Brookings, Clark, Codington, Deuel, Grant, Hamlin, Hand, Jerauld, Kingsbury, Lake, Miner, Moody and Sanborn Counties.
