For the second time in a week, the state of South Dakota has lost a college basketball coach.

leaving South Dakota State's men's program for Wright State. This week, in a surprise to virtually no one, Amy Williams is leaving South Dakota to head the Nebraska women's program.

Williams, who played for the Cornhuskers from 1994 to 1998, replaces Connie Yori, who last week resigned after 14 seasons. Yori was the winning coach in program history.

In a Nebraska press release, Williams said:

What an honor to return home as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at the University of Nebraska.  My family and I are thrilled to be joining this outstanding University and the Lincoln community.  I am grateful to President Hank Bounds, Chancellor Harvey Perlman and Shawn Eichorst for their confidence in me and I am eager to continue to build on the rich tradition of my alma mater.

In four seasons in Vermillion, Williams was 94-44 with a pair of regular season Summit League championships, a Summit League Tournament title, a NCAA Tournament appearance, and the 2016 WNIT crown.

Williams was the Summit League coach of the year each of the last two seasons.
