In October, the NCAA announced finalists in the bidding process for their venues hosting national championships.  Sioux Falls submitted 19 bids and remains in the running for 5.

Wednesday December 11 will be declaration day and officials at both the Sioux Falls Sports Authority and the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau are excited about their prospects.

Teri Schmidt who is Executive Director of the Sioux Falls CVB has a good feeling about getting at least one bid from the NCAA.  “We had to get in some additional information last week.”  At this late hour, an information request means the city is still being strongly considered.  “When we were in Indianapolis doing the actual bid, it all felt really good.  The body language that we were getting from the VIP’s there was very positive to make the finals.  To get this far, is a huge step for Sioux Falls.”

The five sports are spread across three venues all in the Division 2 ranks.   Men’s and Women’s Basketball and Volleyball is slated for the Sanford Pentagon.  The University of Sioux Falls Sports Complex could host Outdoor Track and Field for the Men and Women.  Wrestling championships would be held at the Denny Sanford Premiere Center.
