NASCAR Race Postponed to Monday

Inclement weather at Pocono Raceway in Pennsylvania caused Sunday's NASCAR race to be rescheduled for Monday.

The race will run Monday starting at 11:00 AM Central time. The race was originally scheduled for noon Sunday.

Persistent rain and fog blanketed the two and a half mile track at Long Pond, Pennsylvania on Sunday. Track officials were prepared to dry the track, but the rain never stopped.

I feel it was a good thing the race never got started. Because a rain shortened race is not a good situation. It puts teams that haven't even performed well in a window of opportunity to come out on top with a simple pit strategy.

Now the race can run on a day with no rain in the forecast and lots of sunshine. It will go the scheduled 400 miles and teams can focus on all out performance.

Look for fuel mileage to be a factor. And don't expect a sleeper to win this one.

This race, the 14th of 36 races on the Sprint Cup circuit, marks the first Cup event of the season that been postponed to the following day.

It's also the first Sprint Cup postponement at Pocono Raceway since August 2009, a Monday race won by Denny Hamlin.
