Three preseason games are in the books, and now the Minnesota Vikings have officially named Matt Cassel as the starting quarterback heading into the regular season.

The decision comes as no surprise as Cassel has proven over the first three preseason games that he should be the starter over rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Cassel was the favorite entering camp and his strong preseason play has locked him in.

With Cassel as the starter, Bridgewater will have the opportunity to sit behind a veteran and learn. Short-term this might cause fans to yell "Teddy" after every incomplete pass thrown by Cassel, but long-term wise this will be the best situation for both Bridgewater and the team.

Cassel and the Vikings will open the season on the road against the Rams on September 7th.
